TV Land greenlights ‘Hot in Cleveland’

Network announces its first original comedy series

After airing thousands of sitcom reruns since its inception, TV Land has finally gotten into the original comedy business.

Cabler has greenlit 10 episodes of “Hot in Cleveland,” starring Valerie Bertinelli, Wendie Malick and “Frasier” veteran Jane Leeves. Skein revolves around three women on the way to Paris who end up living together in Ohio. Show is scheduled to launch in June.

Also appearing in the pilot is Betty White, who recently received the Screen Actors Guild lifetime achievement award and had a prominent role in bigscreen pic “The Proposal.” While White is only scheduled to be in the pilot, discussions are ongoing about a role in future episodes.

Bertinelli, who gained fame in the Norman Lear CBS sitcom “One Day at a Time,” is also a bestselling author. Her tome “Losing It” described both her battle with weight issues and tumultuous marriage with Eddie Van Halen. Malick has appeared on dozens of TV skeins and had a long run on “Just Shoot Me!” Leeves recently appeared on two episodes of “Desperate Housewives.”

“Cleveland” pilot was written by Suzanne Martin, and series is produced by Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner.
