“It’s a good year to be 35,” says Chelsea Handler. The comedienne and host of latenight talkshow “Chelsea Lately” averages slightly under a million viewers per episode and is fresh off her third New York Times bestseller, “Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang.” Her accompanying tour has earned her more than $10 million, while she recently signed on to star in a half-hour comedy on E!, “After Lately.” Handler’s newly created Borderline Amazing Prods. will produce the new skein.
While tour auds hear a different shtick than what Handler does on “Lately,” she says her persona remains the same. “If you talk about Lindsay Lohan for four or five days a week, you really can’t bear to talk about her on the weekends,” explains the comic. “I think a lot of the reason why people relate to me, or women relate to me, is that I’m exactly who you see.”
Despite her multiplatform success, Handler says she has no interest in features and will miss the benefits of a nightly show. “If you screw up, you have another good show the next day.”
