Turner acquires TV rights to ‘Inception’

Cabler also picks up 'Sex and the City 2'

Turner isn’t dreaming: The cabler has landed the network TV rights to blockbuster theatrical “Inception.”

Deal is one of several Warner Bros. features making their way to corporate sibling Turner’s TNT and TBS cablers. As part of the package, “Inception,” “Jonah Hex” and “Clash of the Titans” will land at TNT, while “Sex and the City 2” and “Valentine’s Day” will go to TBS.

Also included in the package is the fall comedic release “Due Date,” starring Robert Downey Jr., Zack Galifianakis and Jamie Foxx. That feature will go to TBS.

Separately, ABC Cable Networks Group has picked up the rights to the Disney releases “Toy Story 3,” “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” and “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” for its Disney Channel, ABC Family and Disney XD cablers.

The WB pics are all set to bow on TNT and TBS between mid-2012 and early 2013, while the Disney movies will appear on ABC Family and the Disney Channel in late 2012.

Turner’s Warner Bros. package is believed to hover in the normal 10% to 12% of gross neighborhood. Depending on how “Inception” ultimately performs — as well as “Due Date” — the deal could ultimately be worth nearly $100 million.

News of Turner’s “Inception” deal comes a day after word that FX landed rights to “Salt,” which opens this weekend. Turner, FX and USA have been aggressively pursuing movie deals in recent years, making the quest for these pacts much more competitive.

Christopher Nolan is the helmer behind “Inception” has already topped $80 million at the domestic box office since its bow Friday.

“Jonah Hex” which opened June 18, has grabbed about $10 million at the box office, while “Clash of the Titans” which opened April 2, has taken in $163 million. “Sex and the City 2” which opened May 27, has nabbed $95 million so far, and “Valentine’s Day” did $110 million.

“Due Date,” from helmer Todd Phillips, opens Nov. 5.

Meanwhile, “Prince of Persia” which opened May 28, has grossed $89 million, and “Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” released July 14, has brought in $29 million.
