TLC is spreading wedding fever to the South.
As a spinoff of “Say Yes to the Dress,” the cabler is moving the show to Atlanta and will shoot in salon Bridals by Lori. Twelve episodes have been ordered.
“Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta” will launch in July, while the fifth season of the original skein starts up April 23.
Bridals by Lori sees approximately 10,000 brides-to-be per year. New skein will be produced by North South Prods.
“This is definitely a way to expand upon our success,” Nancy Daniels, TLC’s senior VP of production and development, told Daily Variety. “You can only do so many episodes in one location. It’s a perfect fit for our audience, being all about the bridal experience.”
Cabler has been married to the wedding theme since “Say Yes to the Dress” premiered in 2007. Net recently launched “Four Weddings” and is bringing back “Battle of the Wedding Designers” (formerly titled “Battle of the Wedding Planners”). There’s also a daytime skein in development that follows hair and makeup teams as they prepare brides for their big days.
TLC, with the “Jon and Kate Plus 8” controversy in the rearview mirror, has done well in grouping its programming into themes: weddings and food.
“Cake Boss” has become a destination for TLC audiences, while “BBQ Pitmasters,” “The Little Chocolatiers” and “Ultimate Cake Off” are also in heavy rotation in the cabler’s lineup.
