Ski extends Miller deal

Pact with parent Bonnier means vintage films stay on cabler

Ski Channel has extended its rights agreement with Bonnier Mountain Group, the parent company of ski film producer Warren Miller Entertainment.

The cabler will continue to air vintage Warren Miller films along with the TV series “Spills and Thrills.”

Ski Channel and Bonnier said they also plan to explore a more integrated partnership. Bonnier owns the magazines Ski and Skiing, which already engage in mutual advertising campaigns with Ski Channel.

“Our overarching objective for the Bonnier Mountain Group is to grow the overall ski industry,” Bonnier manager Mike Federle said. “Supporting the development of television programming and distribution to tens of millions is one significant way we can achieve this.”

Cable deal is the second for Miller in recent months. In October, Starz inked a 10-year pact to air more recent Miller films. Warren Miller sold his eponymous production company in 1988.

Ski Channel currently reaches 23 million homes through distributors including DirecTV, Dish and Time Warner. It still does not have a deal with Comcast, which serves many of the Colorado-Utah skiing areas.
