RelativityReal said it believed the deal would immediately make Rakieten’s production company, Ellen Rakieten Entertainment, a major player in the unscripted field. Multiyear production deal was announced by Ryan Kavanaugh, CEO of Relativity Media and RelativityReal CEO Forman.
Under the new deal, Rakieten will create and produce unscripted and scripted television series.
According to RelativityReal, Rakieten’s seven-figure operating budget will be used to hire development and production execs and open offices in Los Angeles and Chicago. Rakieten, who spent two decades at Winfrey’s Harpo label, joined “Oprah” at its 1986 inception. She serves as exec producer on “The Marriage Ref” and on “Losing It With Jillian Michaels.”
Forman called Rakieten “a talented producer, a gifted storyteller, and a savvy entrepreneur.”
“Ellen is exactly the kind of person we’re looking for as we continue to build RelativityReal into the consummate ‘producer’s shop,'” Forman said.
In partnering with RelativityReal, Rakieten called the Forman shingle “a supportive, creative, entrepreneurial company that’s ready to hit the ground running.”
