Michael Tolkin pursues TV

Scribe fielding two drama projects

Scribe Michael Tolkin is diving into TV development, fielding two drama projects in partnership with Dawn Parouse and Marti Noxon’s Grady Twins shingle.

Tolkin, whose recent pic credits include the Weinstein Co.’s “Nine,” and Noxon are co-writing a project for NBC about a musician who is mentored by a jealous manager. The project is designed to incorporate music as a central storytelling element.

At FX, Tolkin is working on a project revolving around a family at the start of an apocalyptic era for the world. Tolkin brought the idea to Grady Twins, which is producing with Fox TV Studios. Tolkin, Parouse and Noxon are exec producers on both projects, which are in the early stage of development.

Before “Nine,” Tolkin developed a biker drama project, “1%,” for HBO. He’s moved freely between novels, film and TV throughout his career. His books include “The Player,” “Under Radar” and “Among the Dead.” Tolkin earned an Oscar nom for his screenplay adaptation of “Player.”

Tolkin said he’s been spurred to pursue more TV projects because he’s become so enamored of the form in recent years.

“I’m really in love with the 12-episode arc,” Tolkin said. “It’s a good way to deliver the kind of story that a novel delivers — a story that says something about contemporary mores and manners, and about the way the world is now.”

Tolkin and Grady Twins are repped by WME.
