HBO picks up ‘Father’

Escobar doc also headed to Sundance

HBO has picked up Sundance-bound doc “Sins of My Father,” about Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar told through his son, and will air the film in the fall.

Pic, directed by Argentian filmmaker Nicolas Entel, examines Escobar’s life via his only son, Sebastian Marroquin, who changed his name and fled the country after his father’s death.

Part of the film shows Marroquin reaching out to the families who had members killed by his dad and asking for forgiveness.

Having premiered at the Intl. Doc Film Festival, “Father” is scheduled to unspool as an official selection of the upcoming Sundance Film Festival’s World Documentary Competition.

HBO documentary topper Sheila Nevins said the cabler became aware of the pic in December and was interested it wasn’t a typical film about a gangster.

“This was done from the inside out,” said Nevins, referring to Marroquin’s revelations about Escobar. “It’s really hard to get a son to talk about his father like this.”

Film is produced by Red Creek Prods.
