Call him a legal superhero. Writer-producer Rick Eid has teamed with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci on a drama pilot for Fox and 20th Century Fox TV about a prosecutor who suddenly possesses the ability to tell if a defendant is guilty or innocent.
The untitled project has a script order at Fox. Eid brainstormed the idea and is penning the script. He’ll exec produce with Kurtzman and Orci, who planted their shingle’s TV flag at 20th in February (Daily Variety, Feb. 2).
Show revolves around an overly ambitious prosecutor who wrongfully convicts an innocent man for murder, an event that becomes the trigger for his magical flashes and an understanding that he has a debt an understanding that he has a debt to repay to the innocent. “It’s about a flawed guy trying to balance his ambition and his need for redemption,” Eid said.
Eid connected with Kurtzman and Orci in part because the project landed at 20th and because he has worked in the past with Kurtzman/Orci’s TV prexy Heather Kadin. Eid knew as he developed the initial idea that he would benefit from a partner on the project, and Kurtzman and Orci’s “sensibilities seemed to be a good fit for this project,” he said.
Eid has just wrapped his second season as an exec producer and showrunner of TNT’s cop drama “Dark Blue.”
