‘Fashion Police’ takes weekly patrol

Joan Rivers' show will become Friday night staple on E!

Joan Rivers has expanded her patrol at E!, which is turning her “Fashion Police” specials into a weekly series.

E! is expected to announce the new weekly “Fashion Police” today. Show further cements the return of Rivers to the entertainment cabler, where she and daughter Melissa were staples from 1996 to 2003.

The mother-daughter duo exited E! in 2003, but Joan Rivers returned to the channel earlier this year to host its awards season fashion coverage.

As part of the new deal, Melissa Rivers will serve as a co-exec producer on “Fashion Police” but not appear on camera.

New series version of “Fashion Police” launches Aug. 30, with a one-hour recap of the Primetime Emmy Awards. Show then moves to its normal Friday 10:30 p.m. slot starting Sept. 10.

“Fashion Police” stars Joan Rivers as she critiques the week’s celeb fashion. Rivers will also continue to host “Fashion Police” specials through the 2011 awards season — including the Golden Globes, Grammys, SAG Awards and Oscars.

“Joan took ‘Fashion Police’ to a whole new level of comedy and candor when she came onboard for the 2010 award season,” said E! programming exec VP Lisa Berger. “Our audience will now be able to get its weekly fix on everything fashion and pop culture through Joan’s one-of-a-kind perspective.”

Rivers is experiencing a career renaissance of late, starting with her “Celebrity Apprentice” appearance and the recent documentary “Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work.”

She’s also the host of TV Land’s “How’d You Get So Rich.” And both Joan and Melissa Rivers will star in the WE TV docuseries “Mother Knows Best,” which bows in December.

As part of the deal, Melissa Rivers will also develop other projects for Comcast Entertainment Group.

Comcast Entertainment Studios produces “Fashion Police”; Lisa Bacom exec produces while Gary Snegaroff is executive in charge of production.
