Disney Channel renews ‘Imagination Movers’

Music-filled preschool comedy gets third-season order

Disney Channel has given a third season pickup to music-filled preschool comedy “Imagination Movers.”

Show, which centers on the antics of a rock band that uses music to solve problems (consider it a tyke-oriented version of “The Monkees”), will resume production in New Orleans this June.

Imagination Movers” first bowed in September 2008 and is now seen in more than 55 territories. Production order includes a first-ever “Imagination Movers” concert special.

“Fans have connected with the personal warmth of the Movers and their unique style of music for kids,” said Nancy Kanter, senior VP of Playhouse Disney Worldwide.

Show, which airs during Disney’s Playhouse Disney block, comes from exec producers Skot Bright, Sascha Penn and Rick Gitelson. Musicians Rich Collins, Scott Durbin, Dave Poche and Scott “Smitty” Smith make up the band and serve as co-exec producers.

Walt Disney Records, meanwhile, is set to release a new “Imagination Movers” CD, featuring music from the show’s second season, on June 8.

Playhouse Disney has also greenlighted a second season of animated series “Jungle Junction,” from the U.K.’s Spider Eye Animation.

Disney picked up 26 more episodes of the show, which will run in 2011. Trevor Ricketts created the show.
