AECG takes Variety to TV

Company takes rights to develop series based on brand

AECG Entertainment has picked up the rights to develop a TV news series based on the Variety brand.

AECG president-chief operating officer Jonathan Axelrod announced the partnership on Monday.

“Based on (Variety’s) 105-year history as the most credible source for the entertainment industry’s inside information, cutting-edge reporting and unique access, this show will be a show like no other,” Axelrod said.

Alan Ett founded AECG LLC in 1991. Besides AECG Entertainment, the company includes the audio post-production facility Media City; music production, clearance and administration company the Music Collective; and the music library outfit Opus 1 Music Library.

AECG’s stable of companies also includes Opus 19, a commercial music publishing arm that handles works by artists such as Alice Cooper, Tom Waits, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, John Lee Hooker and Howlin’ Wolf.

Ett called the collection of companies “the paradigm for the media studio of the future.”

“The partnership with Variety is a dream come true as we establish ourselves as a major provider of content in all formats to the industry,” said Ett, who serves as CEO of AECG.
