McG is teaming with “Prison Break” creator Paul Scheuring to develop a private eye series at ABC.
Also at the Alphabet, “Paranormal Activity” writer-director Oren Peli is close to landing a home for his thriller “The River” through DreamWorks TV.
The McG/Scheuring project, “I, PI,” has scored a hefty commitment from the Alphabet net.
What’s more, McG is looking to carve out time from his busy feature career to direct the hourlong should it go to pilot.
“I, PI” is a blue-sky actioner centering on an investigator who learned everything he ever needed to know about being a P.I. from watching shows like “Magnum, P.I.” and “Simon and Simon” while growing up. As a result, he tends to subconsciously emulate those TV shamuses while out on the streets.
Scheuring’s other credits include “Masterwork” and feature “The Experiment.” Scribe has a two-script deal at Warner Bros. TV, which is behind “I, PI” along with McG’s Wonderland Sound and Vision.
McG, Scheuring and Wonderland’s Peter Johnson exec produce. Wonderland has set up the script “Zombies vs. Vampires” at NBC.
Past pilots McG has directed include “Chuck,” which he exec produces, and “Fastlane,” which he co-wrote.
As for the Peli project, ABC is expected to give the project a put pilot order. Thriller centers on a TV star who goes missing in the Amazon. Michael R. Perry, who’s writing the upcoming “Paranormal Activity” sequel, is writing “The River” and will exec produce with Peli, who may direct. Jason Blum and Steven Schneider are also exec producing with DreamWorks TV’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey.
DreamWorks just landed a series commitment from Fox for its TV adaptaton of the graphic novel “Locke and Key.”
