Spanish broadcaster Antena 3 is putting the pedal to the metal to pick up key content for its multichannel free-to-air TV service.
NBC Universal’s Telemundo, Mexican media giant Televisa and Colombia’s RCN Television have inked first option deals with A3 for all their telenovelas over the next two years.
Commitments include Spanish broadcast rights to new Televisa productions “Timeless Love” and “Teresa.”
Deals also encompass an undisclosed number of catalog telenovelas from the three, including Telemundo’s “Looking for Dad.”
The telenovelas will air on A3’s lifestyle TV channel Nova. Launched five years ago, Nova programs eight daily telenovela slots. In September, the niche channel averaged a solid 1.8 share in an increasingly fragmented TV market.
A3 also has acquired free-to-air TV rights of 10 upcoming films from Spanish distrib Aurum Prods.
Agreement includes “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1,” scheduled to open in Spanish cinemas at the end of 2011.
The deal strengthens an already close relationship.
