NBC wins ‘Chase’

Bruckheimer series added to network's lineup for next season

NBC has added another marquee name to its 2010-11 lineup, giving a series greenlight to the Jerry Bruckheimer drama “Chase.”

Meanwhile, ABC’s hunt for new series is starting to come into sharper focus. The top drama contenders at the Alphabet are said to be Michael Chiklis starrer “No Ordinary Family,” about a family that discovers its superpowers; “Body of Proof” (aka “Body of Evidence”), a procedural featuring Dana Delany as a medical examiner; Shonda Rhimes’ “Off the Map”; and cop show “187 Detroit,” presented as a fictional docu. The Bruckheimer-produced legal potboiler “The Whole Truth” is also said to have come on strong in recent days.

The two comedies with the strongest buzz since the pilots began rolling in have been “Couples,” from “Friends” alum Shana Goldberg-Meehan, and the Matthew Perry starrer “Mr. Sunshine.” Others still in the mix are said to include “Wright vs. Wrong,” starring Debra Messing as a caustic political commentator; “Happy Endings,” about a couple who breaks up at the altar; and “It Takes a Village,” about divorced parents raising a 15-year-old son with their new spouses.

ABC’s official greenlights are expected by the end of the week, though there’s said to still be a significant amount of internal debate about a number of the prospects.

With “Chase,” NBC has locked in its fifth series order for the upcoming season, following pickups for dramas “Undercovers,” “The Event” and “Love Bites” and laffer “Outsourced.”

“Chase” revolves around the cat-and-mouse game between federal marshals and the fugitives they hunt. Drama hails from scribe Jennifer Johnson (“Cold Case”) and stars Kelli Giddish, Cole Hauser, Amaury Nolasco, Rose Rollins and Jesse Metcalfe.

” ‘Chase’ has all the undeniable elements of a thrill ride that you would expect from a Jerry Bruckheimer action series,” said NBC/Universal Media Studios primetime prexy Angela Bromstad.

With the “Chase” greenlight, helmer David Nutter is now 16 for 16 on series orders for pilots he has directed .

Nutter also served as an exec producer on the pilot. Bruckheimer, Bruckheimer TV chief Jonathan Littman and Johnson are exec producers for the series.
