Creative Emmys set presenter pairs

Showrunners, thesps lined up for Primetime kudos precursor

Showrunners will get the celeb treatment at the Aug. 21 Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

Presenters for this year’s Creative Arts kudos — the precursor to the following week’s primetime Emmycast — will feature some of TV’s top showrunners, including Ryan Murphy (“Glee”), Damon Lindelof (“Lost”), Clyde Phillips (“Dexter”), Matthew Weiner (“Mad Men”) and Steve Levitan (“Modern Family”).

But the star wattage won’t be diminished: The showrunners will be paired with talent from their series. Murphy will be joined on stage by Jane Lynch, for example, while Christina Hendricks will share the podium with Weiner; Elizabeth Mitchell will stand next to Lindelof; John Lithgow will join Phillips; and Rico Rodriguez will stand with Levitan.

Also confirmed: “Saturday Night Live” head writer and “Weekend Update” anchor Seth Meyers will be paired with Andy Samberg.

The presenters will also be assigned categories in which their shows earned a nomination.

The TV Academy also confirmed Wednesday that Spike Jones Jr. is back as producer of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards — a gig he has now held 16 times. Tony DeSena is writer/co-producer for the show; Carole Propp is coordinating producer.

Also, the org announced that TV Academy vet John Leverence, who serves as senior VP of awards, will be given the Syd Cassyd Founders Award.

Leverence has overseen the TV Academy’s awards department since the mid-1970s, after its divorce from the East Coast-based National TV Academy. For three decades he has overseen all administrative matters and rules regarding the Primetime Emmy Awards, including its expansion into new arenas such as animation, effects, interactive and reality TV.

This reps only the tenth time that the org has handed out the Founders’ Award, which is reserved for a TV Academy member “who has made a significant, positive impact on the TV Academy through their efforts and service over many years of involvement.”

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards are set for Saturday, Aug. 21; a two-hour special of highlights from the kudofest will air Aug. 27 on E!
