Trent Reznor today said on his official site he is nearing the completion of the score for “The Social Network,” forthcoming film about the founders of Facebook, due out October 1.
Seems his new band How to Destroy Angels, consisting of himself and his wife, Mariqueen Maandig, took a back seat to the film.
“I was planning on taking some time off after the continual waves of touring that ended last fall and spend this year experimenting around with what would become How To Destroy Angels and some new NIN. Well, that plan didn’t work out so well…I’ve always loved (director David Fincher‘s) work but quite honestly I wondered what would draw him to tell that story. When I actually read the script and realized what he was up to, I said goodbye to that free time I had planned,” said Reznor.
Singer had been recently working with producer Atticus Ross. When Fincher came calling, he brought Ross along for the project.
“As Atticus and I near the end of the scoring process, we’re looking forward to the next phase – distilling the large amount of music we’ve written for this down to a satisfying record (or two).”
(Yeah, and hopefully a collabo with Justin Timberlake! How awesome would that be!?)
“The Social Network” stars Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield (who was just cast today as Spider-Man) and Timberlake.
And Reznor’s thoughts on the pic?
“It’s really fucking good. And dark!”
