Oscar winner Ryan Bingham previews new album

Ryan-bingham200 Five or six years ago, you could see the alt-country singer-songwriter Ryan Bingham pretty regularly at the Mint, a friendly joint on L.A.'s Pico Boulevard. In those days, the Texas-bred musician was backed just by his drummer Matthew Smith, but his talent and charisma were evident even then.

Looking and acting little different than he did when he was starting out, Bingham returned to his old stomping grounds on Wednesday night to play a private event promoting his third album. Much has changed for the young performer: He is now backed by a full band (the Dead Horses), he has a major label contract (with Universal's Lost Highway) and he collected an Oscar and a Golden Globe earlier this year.
