L.A. councilman remembers Kinks bassist Quaife

Pete_600_720 Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Koretz will be on hand at the Silent Movie Theatre on Thursday (7/22) for the Don’t Knock the Rock Festival’s screening of “Do It Again.” And therein lies a tale.

The film, which follows newsman Geoff Edgers’ obsessive attempts to get the Kinks to re-form, was booked into the festival just before founding Kinks bassist Pete Quaife’s death on June 23. Koretz is a long-time Kinks fan, and on July 2 he got the L.A. City Council to adjourn in memory of Quaife’s passing. A document commemorating that event (pictured) will be presented to the public during the Silent Movie screening, and will be sent to Quaife’s fiancée in Denmark.

Thursday’s DKTR event will also include a screening of rare Kinks footage curated by Dr. Charles Beardsley and the spinning of some rare British Invasion sides by DJ Howie Pyro of Luxuria Music’s “Intoxica.”
