Following in the footsteps of such previous honorees as Paul Simon, Willie Nelson, Brian Wilson, James Brown and Kris Kristofferson, John Fogerty will be feted as a BMI Icon at the performance rights organization’s Pop Awards banquet on May 18.

The former Creedence Clearwater Revival front man and solo performer has crafted such durable copyrights as “Proud Mary,” “Fortunate Son,” “Bad Moon Rising,” “Who’ll Stop the Rain” and “Centerfield,” to name just a few of his many hits. His most recent album is the country collection “The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again,” issued by Verve last year.

An all-star homage to Fogerty will highlight the BMI sit-down at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. BMI president Del Bryant and vp/general manager Barbara Cane will host the night, which honors the most performed songs of the year.
