‘Town’ tops Friday B.O.

Affleck heist pic bests three other new releases

On Friday night, moviegoers went to “Town.”

The heist pic from helmer Ben Affleck grabbed the top spot at the box office with “The Town,” which earned about $8.3 million for Warner Bros. in 2,861 runs. New Screen Gems/Sony pic “Easy A” chased it with an estimate of $6.8 million in 2,856 engagements. Another new pic, Universal’s “Devil,” took No. 3 spot with about $4.9 million in 2,809 runs. “Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D” from Screen Gems/Sony took in an estimate of $3 million, (about a 70 percent drop from last week’s opening number), in 3,209 runs. Rounding out the top five was new Lionsgate pic “Alpha & Omega,” which earned about $2.6 million in 2,625 engagements.

Screen Gems/Sony pic “Takers” came in at No. 6 with about $930,000 in 2,139 runs. Focus Features “The American” got about $835,000 in 2,457 engagements. Sony’s “The Other Guys” collected roughly $585,000 in 1,827 runs, while another Sony pic, “Eat Pray Love,” came in at No. 9 with about $520,000 in 1,668 engagements. The Warner Bros. psych thriller “Inception” came in at No. 10 with an estimate of roughly $500,000 in 1,305 runs.
