Cop bromance bests 'Step Up,' 'Inception' on Friday

Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell’s new film, “The Other Guys,” landed at No. 1 on Friday.

The cop bromance from Sony earned roughly $13.2 million in 3,651 engagements. The film was chased by the Summit/Disney newbie “Step Up 3D,” which brought in about $6.6 million in 2,435 runs. Warner Bros. thriller, “Inception” remained viable into its fourth frame, taking the No. 3 spot on Friday with about $5.6 million in 3,418 engagements.

Paramount’s “Dinner for Schmucks” collected about $3.4 million in 3,004 runs, roughly a 60 percent drop from last week’s opening numbers. Rounding out the top five were Angelina Jolie’s “Salt,” which earned an estimate of $3.3 million in 3,317 runs.

Universal’s “Despicable Me” bested all other animated films on Friday with about $2.9 million in 3,413 engagements. “Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore,” a Warner Bros. pic, came in with an estimate of $2.1 million in 3,705 runs, while “Charlie St. Cloud,” the Zac Efron starrer, earned about $1.7 million in 2,725 engagements.

The bottom two pics on Friday were Disney’s “Toy Story 3,” (about $850,000 in 1,714 runs) and Focus Features “Kids Are All Right,” (about $716,000 in 994 engagements).
