‘Expendables’ chased by ‘Vampires’

Satire pic is close second to actioner at Friday B.O.

For the second week in a row, action heroes top the Friday box office.

Sly Stallone and his eclectic band of butt-kicking thesps once again claimed the No. 1 spot for Lionsgate with “The Expendables,” earning about $5 million in 3,270 runs. Trailing it was Fox’s latest satire pic, “Vampires Suck,” which collected about $4.4 million in 3,233 engagements.

Warner Bros. new urban comedy, “Lottery Ticket,” earned about $3.8 million in 1,973 runs, while Sony’s “Eat, Pray, Love,” grabbed an estimated $3.7 million in 3,082 engagements.

New 3D pic “Piranha” from The Weinstein Co. rounds out the top 5 with about $3.6 million in 2,470 runs.

Sony’s buddy pic “The Other Guys” came in at No. 6 with roughly $3 million in 3,472 engagements, while “The Switch” with Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston earned an estimated 2.7 million for Miramax. Universal’s latest, “Nanny McPhee Returns,” chased it with about $2.6 million in 2,784 runs.

The bottom two pics on Friday were Warner Bros. “Inception” (about $2.2 million in 2,401 runs) and Universal’s “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” (roughly $1.6 million in 2,820 engagements).
