Michael Shannon steps into the Off Broadway production of “Our Town” later this month, playing the play’s narrator, the Stage Manager.
Thesp, nommed for an Oscar last year for his turn in “Revolutionary Road,” was last seen Off Broadway in the 2008 staging of “The Little Flower of East Orange.”
As the Stage Manager he’ll replace Stephen Kunken, who departs the production to appear in the upcoming Broadway staging of “Enron,” the London hit that just extended its West End run by 14 weeks.
Shannon’s role in the “Our Town” revival also has been played by Jason Butler Harner and David Cromer, who directed the Thornton Wilder classic.
Production opened about a year ago and has since carved out an unusually long commercial life for itself. Shannon kicks off his stint in the show Feb. 23, with tickets to the production now on sale through June 27.
