Public stages new work by Kron, Guirgis

Theater announces 2010-2011 line-up

The Public Theater has announced its 2010-2011 season, including new work by Tony-nommed “Well” thesp/playwright Lisa Kron and critically lauded scribe/helmer Stephen Adly Guirgis.

Kron’s play “In the Wake” will be helmed by “Well” and “Coraline” musical director Leigh Silverman. New show focuses on personal relationships between protag Ellen and her family and friends in today’s changing political climate. Play started performances at commissioning org Center Theater Group in Los Angeles this Sunday.

“Last Days of Judas Iscariot” writer Guirgis’ new play is called “The Motherf**ker With the Hat,” a co-production with resident company LAByrinth (of which Guirgis is a.d.).

Also on the slate for next year: Tony Kushner’s new drama “The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide to Capitalism and Socialism With a Key to the Scriptures,” as previously announced.

Other productions include avant-garde troupe the Elevator Repair Service’s six-and-a-half-hour unabridged performance of “The Great Gatsby,” called “Gatz;” and the Tricycle Theater Company’s “The Great Game: Afghanistan.”

Public a.d. Oskar Eustis will helm Rinne Groff’s new play “Compulsion,” mounted earlier this season at Yale Rep with Mandy Patinkin in the lead.
