Public, Signature co-produce ‘Guide’

Off Broadway companies team for Kushner's latest

Two Off Broadway troupes, the Public Theater and the Signature Theater Company, will join forces to co-produce the Gotham preem of the latest play by Tony Kushner.

“The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures” will play at the Public in a run that will be part of the Signature’s upcoming season devoted to the work of Kushner (“Angels in America”).

“Intelligent Homosexual” preemed in April 2009 at Minneapolis’ Guthrie Theater in a production directed by Michael Greif. The Public and Signature staging, also helmed by Greif, is produced in association with the Guthrie.

Signature’s 2010-11 season includes the first Gotham revival of “Angels,” plus one more production to be announced. Kushner tuner “Caroline, or Change” and his adaptation of “Mother Courage and her Children” were previously produced by the Public.

Casting for the New York incarnation is not yet confirmed. Guthrie staging starred Stephen Spinella, Linda Emond, Kathleen Chalfant and Michael Cristofer, among others.

“Intelligent Homosexual” will run March 22-June 12, 2011, at the Public.
