“It Must Be Him,” a new comedy by TV scribe Kenny Solms, gets a commercial Off Broadway run this fall starring Peter Scolari (“Newhart”), Liz Torres (“Gilmore Girls”), Stephanie D’Abruzzo (“Avenue Q”) and John Treacy Egan (“The Producers”), among others.
Daniel Kutner, the associate director of Harold Prince, helms the show, which is produced by Orin Wolf and Off the Aisle Prods.
Plot follows a broke comedy writer (Scolari) trying to reignite his career, save his house and find love. Cast also includes David Margulies, Alice Playten and Jonathan C. Kaplan, among others.
Composer Larry Grossman and lyricist Ryan Cunningham provide musical contributions.
Solms was a co-creator and writer of “The Carol Burnett Show,” and also has penned a number of TV specials (including the 43rd Emmys) as well as the book for 1974 Broadway tuner “Lorelei.”
“It Must Be Him” kicks off previews Aug. 24 ahead of a Sept. 1 opening at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater.
