The O’Neill Theater Center has kicked off the open submissions period for the company’s summertime legit conferences.

The org’s National Playwrights Conference, which provides developmental support for about eight plays each summer, will accept scripts through Oct. 22, while open submissions for the tuner-oriented National Music Theater Conference will be accepted Oct. 1-Dec. 1.

The legit development programs at the O’Neill are among the few in the country for which creatives who are not repped by an agent are eligible.

Forty-five-year-old O’Neill Center, which picked up the regional Tony Award this spring, has helped launch projects including “Avenue Q,” “In the Heights” and multiple plays by August Wilson.
