‘Lips Together’ scuttled for this season

Mullally's exit indefinitely postpones Broadway revival

The Roundabout Theater Company has indefinitely postponed its planned Broadway revival of “Lips Together, Teeth Apart” following the abrupt exit Wednesday of cast member Megan Mullally.

Roundabout a.d. Todd Haimes said the org was working on options to produce a replacement offering for its subscribers as soon as possible.

Roundabout had initially planned to find a replacement thesp to keep the show on track. A delay of the April 9 start of previews was announced, but the April 29 opening was supposed to have remained set.

Now, however, “Lips Together” is officially pushed out of the current season. Tony eligibility for 2009-10 ends April 29.

Mullally exited the production amid rumors that she clashed with one or more members of the creative team, which included helmer Joe Mantello and fellow castmates Patton Oswalt, Lili Taylor and David Wilson Barnes.

According to Roundabout, the actress walked out in breach of her contract. A rep for Mullally did not return a call for comment.
