Broadway performer Sachi Shimizu died Nov. 1 in Upper Greenwood Lake, West Milford, N.J., of cancer. She was 58.
Shimizu began touring in musicals at age 16. She was featured on the Rialto in the ensemble of 1970’s “Lovely Ladies, Kind Gentlemen” and 1975’s “Hello Dolly” with Pearl Bailey. She toured with Carol Channing in the same tuner.
Michael Bennett hired Shimizu for the road production of “Seesaw” and again for 1975’s “A Chorus Line,” in which she played Connie Wong until 1990. Off Broadway she was featured in 1990’s “The Life.”
In her later years, Shimizu became a fitness instructor and retired from the stage.
Survivors include her husband, Ron Kurowski; her mother; two brothers; and a sister.
