Tuner, which has been running on the West End since May 2009, got a recent publicity boost when Whoopi Goldberg, one of the producers of the show, was announced for a three-week thesping stint in the Blighty staging.
Goldberg and Stage Entertaiment UK, who team on the London incarnation, again produce in the U.S.
Casting remains to be announced for the Gotham production. On the West End, Patina Miller stars as the singer who, on the run from the mob, hides out with a group of nuns.
Musical is based on the 1992 Touchstone comedy toplined by Goldberg. With Zaks at the helm, legit version has an original score by composer Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater, who previously paired for the stage version of “The Little Mermaid,” with a book by TV writer-producers Cheri and Bill Steinkellner (“Cheers”). Anthony Van Laast (“Mamma Mia!” choreographs.
Design team will include Klara Zieglerova (sets), Lez Brotherston (costumes), Natasha Katz (lights) and Mick Potter (sound).
Exact date and theater have yet to be nailed down.
