Fiscally troubled org will host music events this spring

The fiscally troubled Pasadena Playhouse will host music events this spring as the organization continues efforts to reorganize its financial structure.

The L.A. legit group announced in January that it would shutter due to a debt load of more than $2 million, with $500,000 of that immediately due. More than 35 people were laid off.

With the org in limbo as it tries to come up with a viable fiscal structure for the future, the troupe is experimenting with music programming as a first step toward making the Playhouse itself a venue for multiple disciplines alongside theater.

Pasadena Jazz Institute will produce a weekend of shows called “Jazz at the Playhouse,” running May 28-30, to be followed by music revue “Ovations,” produced June 4-6 by Kelley Oxley with the support of the Blair Learns program for the Blair IB School.

Final offering announced is the Lyric Opera of Los Angeles’ production of Wagner’s “Die Feen,” set to run June 11-19.
