David Lean lecture to be held Dec. 6

LONDON — The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has set Australian director Peter Weir to deliver its flagship David Lean lecture Dec. 6 in London.

Now in its 10th year, the event gives insight into the minds of the industry’s leading directors.

Weir, whose career spans 40 years, won BAFTA’s David Lean Award for direction in 1999 for “The Truman Show” and in 2003 for “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.” His latest film, “The Way Back,” starring Colin Farrell, will be released Dec. 26 in the U.K.

Previous lecturers include David Lynch, Woody Allen, Oliver Stone and John Boorman.
