Tennessee waltz at the Academy

'Country Strong' rolls into Los Angeles

Nashville landed in L.A. when “Country Strong” screened Tuesday night at the Academy.

Shana Feste said the inspiration to create the Screen Gems pic came from her love of country music, but don’t expect her to sing in public any time soon. “Oh God. no! I’m like terrified of being in front of the camera. I’m behind it for a reason,” said the helmer-scribe. “I won’t even do karaoke. I just get nervous thinking about the word ‘karaoke.'”

Not the case for Garrett Hedlund, who elected to show off his singing ability via a karaoke performance as his pic audition. “It didn’t go so well,” he recalled.

Gwyneth Paltrow enjoyed the public singing and, better yet, the fried food of Nashville. “I like Southern food a lot,” she admitted. “I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but I have a very savory, like, cheese and fried-food tooth. I love fried chicken, I love fried clams, I love fried zucchini and I love french fries.”
