Summit: ‘Twilight’ cements studio’s status

Global Independents Spotlight

After cementing its status as a mini-major with the release of “Twilight” last year, Summit kept up the pace with B.O.-smashing sequels “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” and “Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” Pics grossed $1.4 billion worldwide, landing the distrib the largest marketshare of the indies. Risky flick “Red,” an adaptation of Warren Ellis’ edgy comic book series starring an older cast, raked in $25 million in its first week. Up next, distrib’s gearing up for the high-profile releases “Source Code,” slated for April 15 of next year, and Paul W.S. Anderson’s “The Three Muskateers” set for Oct. 14.
