Strand Releasing has acquired U.S. rights to Michael Matzdorff’s ensemble comedy “Feed the Fish,” co-starring Tony Shalhoub, and plans a release early next year.

“Fish,” which Matzdorff produced, directed and wrote, centers on a man making a desperate attempt to reignite his life by hitting the road with his best buddy to do the Polar Bear Plunge in the dead of winter in northern Wisconsin. Shalhoub plays an obsessed law enforcement professional.

Matzdorff self-distributed the film in three cities in Wisconsin — Madison, Sturgeon Bay and Mineral Point — with a gross of more than $40,000 to $45,000 to date.

Strand said the box office numbers achieved by the film in regional markets triggered the acquisition.
