Saturn Awards ring up ‘Avatar’

Del Toro accepts for Cameron

Guillermo del Toro made a surprise appearance at Thursday’s Saturn Awards, accepting the writing and directing kudos for James Cameron for “Avatar.”

Del Toro quipped that Cameron “sent a morbidly obese Mexican to accept for him.”

Leonard Nimoy took guest-star honors for “Fringe.” He admitted it was the first time his name had been pulled from a winner envelope in many years. “This makes up for the fact I was overlooked 60 years ago when I did brilliant work in ‘Zombies of the Stratosphere,’ ” he said.
