Sam Worthington is heading Down Under to shoot a surfing film, the actor recently told newspaper West Australia.
Titled “Drift,” pic is directed by Morgan O’Neill and tells the story of surfing’s rise in Australia and around the world.
“I love surfing,” Worthington tells the WA. “I go out and surf the waves of Southern Cal as much as I can. I am also very interested in the history of the sport, and I know a lot about it.”
The 34 year-old Worthington will play an avid surf photographer and journalist in the indie drama.
Tim Duffy and Myles Pollard are producing “Drift” which is expected to shoot next year in Perth, Australia.
Pic marks the latest in a string of surfing projects on the horizon. Variety reported in June that Sean Penn is behind a biopic about surfing icon Doran “Doc” Paskowitz while filmmaker Curtis Hanson is making a big-wave feature about California surf spot Mavericks.
Worthington, who has two films appearing in Toronto next month (“Last Night” and “The Debt”) is repped by CAA.
