Domestic circuit Rave Motion Pictures is expanding its footprint in Los Angeles, taking over operations of the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza multiplex.
Rave, the fifth-largest exhib in the U.S., recently acquired Rave 18, formerly known as the Bridge theater, as the exhib’s only other L.A.-based theater. Rave manages 61 theaters and some 1,000 screens in 20 states.
“Rave will make a fantastic addition to Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza,” said Ken Lombard, prexy of mall owner Capri Urban Investors. “They understand Los Angeles, the urban marketplace, and have an absolute commitment to delivering the best movie experience you’ll find anywhere.”
As part of the Baldwin Hills deal, the 15-screen theater will be renovated with stadium seating, digital projection and sound, and 3D screens.
The theater, which closed during the summer, is set to re-open on Memorial Day.
