‘Locker,’ ‘Hangover’ top ACE Eddies

'Breaking Bad,' '30 Rock' take series editing nods

“The Hurt Locker” continued to amass kudos as it joined “The Hangover” to take the top film editing awards at the American Cinema Editors’ 60th annual Eddie Awards Sunday at the BevHilton.

“Locker” editors Bob Murawski and Chris Innis nabbed the trophy for drama, while Debra Neil-Fischer’s work on the Warner Bros. laffer earned her the comedy nod. “Those of us who cut comedy work just as hard to make people laugh as those who make people cry,” Neil-Fischer said.

Rounding out the film categories were Kevin Nolting, who added to “Up’s” collection of kudos with the nod for animated film, and Geoffrey Richman, who picked up the docu statuette for “The Cove.”

Top television winners included Lynne Willingham, who won for the “ABQ” episode of AMC’s “Breaking Bad” in the one-hour series category, and Ken Eluto, whose work on the “Apollo, Apollo” episode of NBC’s “30 Rock” netted him the half-hour series kudo.

Other TV awards went to Alan Heim and Lee Percy won for miniseries or TV movie for their work on the net’s “Grey Gardens.” And Louis Cioffi grabbed the Eddie for the “Remains to Be Seen” installment of Showtime’s “Dexter” in the one-hour series for noncommercial TV.

In the reality TV category, Kelly Coskran and Josh Earl reeled in the Eddie for their work on the “Deadliest Catch” episode “Stay Focused and Die.”

Lifetime achievement awards went to Paul LaMastra and Neil Travis.

Helmer Rob Reiner was honored with the ACE Golden Eddie filmmaker of the year award. “Fast cutting doesn’t necessarily mean good editing; it’s the little things that count,” he said to loud applause.
