U went large — way large — for Tuesday’s preem of “Get Him to the Greek”: the Greek Theater as open-air screening venue; 3,000 guests; and a football field-sized after-party on a nearby parking lot with three dozen bars and buffets.
The venue was chosen, said U co-chairman Donna Langley because “it’s an icon; we shot here; and there was an organic reason to be here.”
Though there might have been less shivering if the preem had been in August, the pic has a June 4 release date and “every once in a while a movie lends itself to a premiere that’s a major event,” said chairman Adam Fogelson.
Producer Judd Apatow said there had been some concern over using the Greek because “playing a comedy with no ceiling you worry about the laughs disappearing into the sky, but this was rockin’.”
Director Nicholas Stoller said, “The whole time I wanted to take a photo of it but I thought it would be cheesy.”
