‘Girls’ night out

Tyler Perry brings out feminine side

Monday night was ladies night at the New York City preem of Lionsgate’s “For Colored Girls.” Helmer Tyler Perry framed it as a collective, bringing the entire cast of leading ladies to the front of the Ziegfeld Theater before the screening.

However, among the women themselves, everyone had a favorite.

“I had some scenes with Janet Jackson, I was a little nervous,” said Loretta Devine. “I wanted to call her nasty … Nasteee.”

Co-star Kerry Washington was most excited to work with Whoopi Goldberg, whose eponymous one-woman show changed her life: “I wasn’t old enough to go when it was on Broadway, but my parents had it on a VHS and I literally memorized the entire show. I even got to perform a little bit of it for her when we were on set in Atlanta.”
