Double Nickel Prods. has acquired a pair of spec scripts from high-profile mystery authors: “The Legacy,” by Gregg Hurwitz, and “The Return of the Magi,” by mother-and-daughter team P.J. Lambrecht and Traci Lambrecht.
Jenette Kahn and Adam Richman at Double Nickel will produce. Both exec produced Clint Eastwood’s “Gran Torino,” with Kahn having optioned Nick Schenk’s script in 2007.
“Legacy” is a drama wrapped around a perfect crime centering on a mother in her 30s and her two amazing boys.
Details of the plot are being kept under wraps.
Hurwitz’s titles include “The Tower,” “Minutes to Burn,” “Do No Harm” and “The Kill Clause.”
His latest, “They’re Watching,” will be published next month, with feature rights optioned to Big Kid Pictures for David Dobkin and Jeff Kleeman.
“Magi” is a Christmas story about a young African-American thief and two off-kilter women who think he’s the third of the three Magi and lug him across the desert to Las Vegas.
The Lambrechts, known to their fans as PJ Tracy, recently published their fifth book starring the Monkeewrench crew, “Shoot to Thrill.”
