No dinner was served at Paramount’s “Dinner for Schmucks” premiere on Monday. Instead after pic’s Ziegfeld screening, guests made their way 40 blocks downtown to the Standard Hotel’s Boom Boom Room to feast on an assortment of hors d’oeuvres and wine while they took in the venue’s spectacular panoramic views of Gotham.
“I’ve never seen anything like this,” pic’s helmer Jay Roach said upon arrival to the hotel’s 18th floor. Before making his way to the well guarded, conspicuous VIP area, Roach said while he’s also never been at a dinner that centers on singling out the most pathetic guest, he’s had a fair share of anxiety surrounding the evening ritual.
“Whenever I get invited to a nice dinner I always feel like I was the last person invited because someone else canceled,” Roach said. “Or I’ll be the first one, once they shut the door after me, who everyone will turn to each other and say “what a schmuck!'”
