Thesp Dean Geyer has landed the lead role in Sony/Screen Gems’ Michael Jai White-helmed “Never Back Down” sequel.

Story centers on four young fighters who join an underground tourney for Mixed Martial Arts. Geyer toplines as the lead fighter who joins after getting kicked off his college wrestling team.

Alex Meraz (“New Moon”) and Evan Peters (“Kick-Ass”) co-star, along with professional MMA fighters Todd Duffee and Scottie Epstein.

Summit released the original “Never Back Down” pic on March 14, 2008, totaling $24.9 million domestically. The sequel, which is being penned by original “Down” scribe Chris Hauty, is produced by Peter Nelson, Craig Baumgarten and David Zelon.

Geyer first appeared as a contestant on TV’s “Australian Idol” before landing a role on the long-running Australian soap opera “Neighbors.”
