Thursday night’s preem of Warner Bros.’ “Due Date” went to the dogs — or more exactly, Sunny the French Bulldog, who drew a lion’s share of the attention on the black carpet with co-stars Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr. outside the Chinese.
“We love that the dog wound up being so integral to Zach’s character, because it’s a very funny way to show how he can’t stand to be alone,” noted scripter Alan Cohen at the post-preem bash at the Hotel Roosevelt.
Key inspiration for the plot came two years ago to Cohen and longtime writing partner Alan Freedland from the serious issue of being placed on the TSA’s “no-fly” list.
“The no-fly list — and the difficulty of being taken off it — is what really got us started, since we’re both fathers of two kids,” said Freedland. “Being a dad is all about growing up.”
