Family-owned circuit Cobb Theaters is partnering with digital provider Cinedigm to convert more than 80% of the chain’s total U.S. screen count to digital.
The Birmingham, Ala.-based chain will convert 170 out of 210 screens in 14 locations. Cobb currently operates 17 locations in the Southeast.
“Innovative entertainment is a family tradition at Cobb,” said Jeremy Welman, COO of Cobb Theaters. “The digital transition will allow us to operate our screens with far more efficiency and programming choices.”
Some of Cobb’s dinner-and-a-movie locations, CineBistro, also are part of the chain’s digital rollout.
Deployment is part of Cinedigm’s Phase 2 plan that includes 43 exhibs, including Cobb, and marks the latest addition among smaller exhibs to get the digital treatment, a prerequisite for 3D.
Cinedigm partnered with the fest circuit earlier this month as digital advisor and provider for the Telluride Film Fest.
