It was like a LAByrinth Theater Company class reunion at the Thursday premiere of Overture’s “Jack Goes Boating.” Thesps John Ortiz (who produces) Philip Seymour Hoffman (who directs) and Daphne Rubin-Vega rubbed shoulders with legit pals Eric Bogosian and Stephen Adly Guirgis, who has a cameo in the pic.
“I have to confess that we do know each other pretty well,” Rubin-Vega said of the “Boating” cast. “One thing that we had here was the freedom to fuck up and to be a fool and try different things.”
At the New York Yacht Club after-party, Amy Ryan said she had no problem getting into the movie’s groove, even though the rest of the cast had already worked together.
“I think if I’d gone into the play while they were all in the play, I would have had a harder time, but Bob Glaudini had also changed the script somewhat so they had as many questions as I did for him.”
