Angela Lansbury will co-star with Jim Carrey in 20th Century Fox’s “Mr. Popper’s Penguins,” which is set for an Aug. 12 release.
Based on the children’s book, the pic revolves around Mr. Popper, a high-powered, New York businessman who suddenly inherits six penguins and faces major challenges taking care of them.
Lansbury will play the owner of a local tavern that Mr. Popper, played by Carrey, is trying to buy.
James Tupper and Clark Gregg have also joined the cast.
The pic, which also stars Carla Gugino, Ophelia Lovibond and Philip Baker Hall, is being helmed by Mark Waters with John Davis producing through his Davis Entertainment shingle.
“Mr. Popper’s” marks Lansbury first acting gig since her supporting role as Aunt Adelaide in “Nanny McPhee.”
Lansbury, who recently signed with Fortitude, was most recently seen on Broadway in “A Little Night Music” with Catherine Zeta-Jones.
