A-Rod goes from big leagues to bigscreen

Yankees slugger joins 'Benefits' cast

Screen Gems is fielding a team for the Justin Timberlake-Mila Kunis starrer “Friends With Benefits,” including one of baseball’s biggest stars, Alex Rodriguez.

Known as A-Rod, the New York Yankees slugger will make his bigscreen debut in the laffer.

Also joining the cast are Woody Harrelson, Patricia Clarkson, Richard Jenkins, Jenna Elfman, Emma Stone and Andy Samberg.

Story follows two friends as they come out of disastrous relationships.

Will Gluck will direct the film, which was penned by David A. Newman and Keith Merryman. Gluck penned a rewrite. Lensing is scheduled to begin this month in and around New York. Screen Gems will work around Rodriguez’s busy Yankees schedule by shooting his scenes on the player’s off days.

Martin Shafer and Liz Glotzer are producing via their Castle Rock banner.

Clint Culpepper and Eric Paquette will oversee the project for Screen Gems.

Harrelson, Clarkson and Elfman are represented by CAA. Jenkins is handled by the Gersh Agency. Brody and Samberg are represented by UTA. Stone is handled by WME.
